Sperm Whale's Sexual Organs, Spermaceti & Ambergris

The sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) is the World's largest toothed predator. They have the biggest brain of any animal on Earth, and produce the loudest sounds. Also called cachalots, they were the prime quarry for whalers.

The whalers slaughtered these leviathans primarily for their spermaceti and ambergris, to produce candles and perfumes.

In 1839 Thomas Beale wrote his book on Physeter macrocephalus, The Natural History of the Sperm Whale, from which some of his observations on the creature's anatomy are here presented -
