Fluorine Gas From Heating Potassium Fluoroplumbate - 1894

Dr. Brauner had an unusual method of determining whether he had produced fluorine gas. It is amazing he survived to write this work on fluoroplumbates -

"Long before the tube became red hot, a gas began to be evolved having the characteristic odour of fluorine. Fumes of hydrofluoric acid issued from the nose after inhaling and exhaling the gas."
